With a fifth critically-acclaimed album and expanded touring schedule,
John Reischman and the Jaybirds are a top-flight band delivering a truly
fresh blend of original songs and instrumentals, old-time heritage, and
bluegrass power.
Featuring new material from all five founding band members, Vintage &
Unique is the latest in a series of CDs to win rave reviews for a trademark,
old-time-infused bluegrass sound that respects tradition while advancing
the music.
The nomination of Stellar Jays for a Juno Award ("Canadian Grammy")
follows praise such as this from Nashville Public Radio: “A masterpiece —
a fascinating and fresh-sounding collection of tunes that incorporate the
best elements of bluegrass and old-time into a killer new sound.”
Bluegrass Unlimited magazine describes John as “one of the world's undisputed masters” of the mandolin, a frequent accolade since his days
with the Tony Rice Unit.
“Though Reischman is the leader and front man, he gives each of them plenty of room to shine, and together they produce music that is
seamlessly excellent and rewarding,” SingOut! magazine says of the line-up: John on mandolin, Jim Nunally on guitar, Trisha Gagnon on
bass, Nick Hornbuckle on banjo, and Greg Spatz on fiddle.
As FolkWax says, John Reischman and the Jaybirds offer “clarity, energy, good ensemble work, classy originals, and an adventurous
approach” to the world of bluegrass and folk music — along with engaging stage humour in powerful live shows.

- “I can see a day when her name is mentioned alongside Lucinda Williams, Mary
Gauthier and Gillian Welch. She’s just that good.” ~ The Real Southern
- “Amanda Platt's striking, timeless vocals form the cornerstone of her often heart-
wrenching songs, while producer Pete James' understated guitar and gentle harmonies
round out the duo's saccharine-sweet mix.” ~ Dane Smith, Mountain Xpress
- “They've got a sound as classic as grits... I thought of those country songs that play on
those diner jukeboxes you see in movies.” ~ Charlotte’s Creative Loafing
- “Amanda’s lyrics are both sardonic and sweet, which adds a contemporary element to
their country twanged Americana sound [which] is more influenced by the harmonic
tendencies of country singers like Johnny Cash and June Carter” ~ Folk to Folk Blog
In a world that is becoming increasingly digitalized and impersonal, The Honeycutters are building a reputation based on live performance and
songs that tend to stick with you. Their first full length studio release, Irene, landed them in Ian Hughes' No Depression Podcast top twenty, as
well as number 32 in WNCW's listener voted top 100. They released When Bitter Met Sweet in May 2012, and it promptly landed on the
Americana Radio Charts and remained there for the rest of the year.
Singer/songwriter Amanda Anne Platt has a voice that has been described as "perfectly unadorned" and "recklessly beautiful". The Honeycutters
sound is creating an original brand of Americana that has proved equally appealing to both the musician and the music lover, the country and the
city, and the old and the young. The band continues to tour throughout 2013 with sold out shows and new fans all across the country. They will
embark on recording their next album in the Fall.

Billy Joe Shaver has never been a household name, but his songs became country standards
during the '70s and his reputation among musicians and critics has remained legendary
throughout the ensuing decades.
All Music Guide lists 23 albums, from 1973’s Old Five & Dimers Like Me through 2007’s
Everybody’s Brother. Among his many classic songs are “I'm Just an Old Chunk of Coal (But
I'm Gonna Be a Diamond Some Day),” “Honky Tonk Heroes,” “Georgia on a Fast Train,” “Live
Forever,” “Tramp on Your Street,” and “Try and Try Again.”
In 1999, Shaver was invited to perform at the Grand Ole Opry. In 2005, Billy Joe Shaver
performed on CMT Outlaws. In 2006, he was inducted into the Texas Country Music Hall of
Fame. He recently served as spiritual advisor to Texas independent gubernatorial candidate
Kinky Friedman and his 2007 album Everybody’s Brother was nominated for a GRAMMY. For
his efforts, the Americana Music Association awarded him their Lifetime Achievement Award
in Songwriting.

Shaver is truly one of the most respected living figures in American music. His songs have been cut by Elvis, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Johnny
Cash, Waylon Jennings and many others. Bob Dylan, who rarely covers other writers, often plays Billy Joe‘s “Old Five And Dimers Like Me” in
concert and Johnny Cash called him “my favorite songwriter.” The Washington Post noted, “when the country outlaws were collecting their holy
writings, Billy Joe Shaver was carving out Exodus.”
